Job's Experience with God

I have never been great when it came to interviews, but of all interviews I have heard of, I think Job 38-40 (http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Job%2038-40&version=NIV) takes the cake.  This interview makes an interview with Donald Trump look like a piece of cake.  After 35 chapters of going back and fourth with his friends, God comes to Job and talks to him.  What God does not say is "Wow Job, you were right.  You are such a righteous man.  I don't know what got into me.  I don't know why I let you suffer like that.  You went through a lot, you deserve better."  No, not even close.  Instead, God takes a completely different perspective.  What God also doesn't do is go into the conversation lightly.  God basically starts of by calling Job a fool for questioning His decisions without understanding what exactly is going on.

After that, he prepares Job's heart for some intense discipline.  God uses a line that is often used in movies, when a plane is going to crash.  He says Job, brace yourself.  You are in for a crash landing.  You better be ready to hear what I'm going to say.  I going to interrogate you, and you are going to answer me when I'm done.

Now stop and think for a minute what Job's response might be.  Umm, possibly an immeasurable amount of fear.  Like, so much that he might wet himself.  The God of the Universe, whom Job is learning has more power and control than anyone can ever imagine, just told him to "brace yourself like a man."  I'm going to ask you these questions, and I will get an answer.  WOW!!!!  That is the only word that I can think of to remotely come close to describing the reaction God has for Job.

I love Job's response to God after He (God) gets through his first round of interrogation: "I am unworthy--how can I reply to you?  I put my hand over my mouth.  I spoke once, but I have no answer--twice, but I will say no more."

Job's response to God's second round of interrogation was just a great!  It again shows how humbled Job was when the LORD came to him.  "My ears have heard of you but now my eyes have seen you.  Therefore I despise myself and repent in dust and ashes."  In New Testament terminology, I will take up my cross, and follow you.  In other words, WOW!  I missed by a long shot.  Forgive me, because I spoke without knowledge or wisdom of who you are.

Looking at my own life now, I wonder how many times I stick my foot in my mouth like that.  How many times does God put me through a test and I tell him "I really don't deserve this.  You should really treat your servants better God."  Well, I have never been a servant of royalty, but I'm guessing if someone questioned Royalty like that, it would be to the chopping block with them.  But God, full of mercy and grace, showed compassion on Job and shows daily compassion on me, by disciplining me, instead of cutting me off from him.

What a great and Merciful God I serve!  Holy, Holy, Holy are you LORD God Almighty.  Just are your decisions.  Perfect is your plan.  Creator of the Universe.  Commander and Chief of the Heavenly Army.  And King of all Creation.  My Savior and My God.
